Previously known as PTLLS, the Level 3 Award in Education and Training (RQF) is ideal for anybody who delivers training in the workplace or anyone wishing to teach in the further Education and Skills Sector. This online learning course forms a foundation for those with little to no previous experience of teaching or training and is an ideal introductory qualification to the adult learning centre.

We welcome enrolments from international students as well as those based in the UK and you must be at least 19 years of age with a good standard of written and spoken English to enrol on this course.

Approximate study period for this qualification is 120 hours.

Assessment

This award is assessed in a number of ways:

  1. Assignments
    Learners are expected to write a number of short assignments for each of the sections within the award. The assignments should include theory and relate to real workplace or teaching situations to make relevant points. The assignments will help you to explore and apply the full teaching and learning cycle.
    Your tutor will provide feedback and give the opportunity to resubmit assignments if additional work is required.
  2. Micro teaching
    The final assessment in this course is the delivery of a 15-minute micro teaching session which you will record and upload to your tutor for marking.
    The Micro teaching should demonstrate the content you have studied in the 3 units of the award including:
    • An introduction, aims and outcomes, ice breaker and health and safety
    • Deliver an inclusive lesson using a range of resources and methods.
    • Assess the content and summarize the lesson.
    Learners will be expected to provide a range of written material to support their lesson including; scheme of work, lesson plan, learner evaluation and self-evaluation of their performance.

Course duration

We expect you to complete this course within 12 months and provide access to tutor support and your online portal for this time.  You will be given 24/7 access to our online portal where you can view your course content and upload your assignments.

Understanding the Roles, Responsibilities and Relationships in Education and Training

This introductory unit helps you to understand the introduction of teaching including health and safety, equal opportunities and the other professionals you may have to work with.

Unit No: 2

Understanding and using inclusive learning and teaching approaches in education and training.

This unit helps you to understand how people learn, the ways in which people communicate and how to use a range of different teaching methods and resources to help you meet your learners’ individual needs.

Unit No: 3

Understanding the principles and practices of assessment.

This unit identifies what assessment is and how to deliver excellent assessment practice. The unit is ideal for anybody with an interest in assessing workplace achievement or those delivering regulated qualifications and awards.

How is the course assessed / examined?

This award is a regulated qualification and you will therefore have to provide evidence of your competency.  The assessment is divided into two parts as follows:

  • Written assignments (150-200 words).  These will be based around the course content and help you demonstrate your understanding.
  • Design and deliver a teaching session lasting 15 minutes.  Your video can be taken using a camera such as those on Smart telephones or tablet computers and uploaded for marking.
How long does it take to complete?

This award will normally take you about 120 hours to fully complete depending on your level of existing knowledge and the amount of research you complete. These hours can be condensed into weeks or spread over months to suit your lifestyle and other commitments.

Your online portfolio will deactivate after 12 months if you haven’t completed the award.
