Description

This course is awarded by the Royal Lifesaving Society UK, and delivered by CTC Training and Development trainers that have specific leisure industry experience. Paragraph 193 of the HSE publication “Managing Health and Safety in Swimming Pools” states – Whenever the pool is in use, a member of staff will need to be designated as “on call” to respond immediately to the alarm and deal with any emergency.

It is essential that such staff are trained in pool rescue, CPR techniques and first aid. The Emergency Response (Pool) is designed to assist operators to meet these requirements. The Emergency Response Programme is designed to train ancillary staff to back up and support the lifeguard team (if available) and staff to respond to an emergency.

This course is delivered within leisure operators premises.

Overview

Course Type

This course is delivered at workplaces and may be attended by up to 12 people.  The course will be delivered in a classroom environment for the theory sections. We will need access to a swimming pool for the water based sessions.

Course Requirements
This is an entry level qualification in the leisure sector. However, you will need to be able to demonstrate the following:

  • Ability to swim 25m unaided on your front and back.
  • Ability to collect a sunken object from the deepest part of the pool.
  • General fitness to carry out lifting techniques.
  • Be at least 16 years of age at the date of assessment.

Emergency Pool Responder course

Questions related to the pool emergency responder course.

How long does this course take to complete?

Course durations are slightly different for STA and RLSS versions.

However, we run both versions of this course over 2 days (Usually 09:00-17:00)

This is contact time with a tutor and excludes break times, changing times etc.

How long is the qualification valid?

Once you have met the requirement sand passed this course your qualification will be valid for 24 months.

At the end of validity you will be required to complete a new course of instruction to re-qualify.

Is this a regulated qualification?

Yes – We offer the Pool Responder qualification in 2 formats:

  • Awarded by the Royal Lifesaving Society
  • Awarded by the Swimming Teachers Association.
